About Tirzepitide
Tirzepatide is a once-weekly injectable medication used for type 2 diabetes and chronic weight management.
What kind of drug is it?
Tirzepatide is a dual GIP and GLP-1 receptor agonist.
That means it mimics two natural gut hormones:
- GIP (glucose-dependent insulinotropic polypeptide)
- GLP-1 (glucagon-like peptide-1)
Most older medications (like semaglutide) only target GLP-1. Tirzepatide activates both receptors, which is why it tends to produce stronger effects on blood sugar control and weight loss.
